MANY aspects of navigation control and display were explored at a recent conference in which aeronautical concepts played a significant part. The Royal Institute of Navigation gave prominence to new and developing ideas in which highly automated cockpits have changed the pilots role to an information management process. Problems do occur however, and research is directed to the human/machine interface.
