Advanced Boeing 737

Rolled out in January and incorporating a considerable amount of new technology, the Boeing 737–300 will be undergoing flight testing during 1984 which will lead to FAA certification in November and first delivery to US Air shortly afterwards. Two aircraft will be used in the programme, the second of which will also be employed in obtaining CAA certification. Characterised by new, fuel‐efficient engines, aerodynamic improvements, extensive use of composites and digital avionics, the—300 has been designed with the emphasis on commonality with the 737–200 wherever possible. At the same time, the opportunity has been taken of including advances (such as extending the fuselage) where these are thought to be cost‐effective and enhance the overall performance of the aircraft.
