Dunlop Precision Rubber of Leicestershire, UK reports the development of a new, high performance door seal for Bombardier's Global Express^®business jet (see Plate 5).

Plate 5 Dunlop Precision Rubber has developed a special compartmentalised door seal for more effective sealing in Bombardier's Global Express business jet

The new seal will be fitted to the main passenger door of the Global Express. It is a complex fabrication of silicone rubber reinforced with polyester fabric and incorporating a low-friction surface, which is said to both protect the seal and contribute to the smooth closing of the door.

The novel feature of Dunlop Precision's design is a series of internal bulkheads built into the entire length of the seal and dividing it into compartments. The design is stated to maintain optimum sealing performance,while providing a much safer sealing solution than conventional designs. It claims to minimise any risk of failure and so improves safety.
