Climate change activist Greta Thunburg, in her visit to the UK Parliament in 2019, brought into question the decision-making taking place within its neo-gothic walls. Rather than making decisions based on the overall economic benefit of countries, instead she insisted we should make decisions based on how emissions of greenhouse gases. As she put it, we should no longer ask if we have got enough money to do something, but also if we have got enough of the carbon budget to spare to do something, and that should become the centre of a new currency.
