In the last ten years, the most significant development in the transportation infrastructure in Slovakia has been the construction of the national highway system. In order to speed up the process and minimize the cost, the effective design choice is the slab-on-girder bridges. This paper summarizes experiences regarding the application and behavior of precast prestressed girder bridges with various types of cast-in-place deck, which are produced in Slovakia. A wide range of completed structures including simply supported and semi-continuous bridges with reinforced concrete pier diaphragms are discussed.
