Introduction
Cromer is a small Victorian town with a traditional seafront comprising a beach, promenade
and pier. The town sits on top of soft cliffs which are defended to prevent erosion. Defence
from erosion is provided by a combination of groynes to retain the beach, which lies in front
of a seawall. The entire Cromer Coastal Strategy frontage is one mile in length.
Immediately to the east and west of Cromer the high soft cliffs continue. These cliffs
adjacent the Cromer frontage are undefended (though some relic defences remain to the east)
and are managed under a "No Active Intervention" policy.
