The construction industry needs to change the way assets are delivered and maintained. Globally over the next few decades it needs to deliver more than the equivalent area of Japan in useable floor space per year. At the same time assets need to be better performing to reduce carbon emissions and energy bills, and need to be delivered and maintained with less resources. So, the industry is expected to change significantly, and quickly over the next decade, but with that change comes real opportunity. Opportunity to be more agile, productive and collaborative, but also to deliver a more flexible, sustainable built environment. Automation and manufacturing-led construction offer significant potential in delivering that change, and this chapter provides an overview of what that can look like.
