This chapter examines various ways that second-grade teachers in two schools used media within an online version of an 8-week Bridge Unit to support engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration, and evaluation. The observations across the two school settings describe the many rich and meaningful but also highly varied ways in which media can be utilized. Media supports highly interactive lessons as a hook to engage children in conversation and ponderings, to spark curiosity, present background information on open-ended challenges, to support conceptual learning, and to document and share student work.
