The Puerto Caucedo Container Terminal is a privately owned container handling facility situated on the south coast of the Dominican Republic. The Terminal recently successfully increased its handling capacity via modification of an existing structure. The “Phase 2” works included construction of a new 300m operational container quay with associated infrastructure on the lee side of the breakwater constructed in Phase 1. All works were undertaken without disruption to ongoing container handling operations within the Terminal and without modification to the principal function of the breakwater. This paper presents the general operational requirements, technical challenges and constraints, and focus on particular areas where risks were mitigated.
