Academic misconduct has long been a challenge for higher education institutions globally (Denisova-Schmidt, 2016), and there has been varying degrees of success in managing this problem. Research into academic integrity and misconduct has grown significantly over the years (Bertram Gallant & Rettinger, 2022) as researchers take a close-up look at the factors which cause misconduct, how to develop students’ integrity, and strategies institutions can employ to implement a culture of academic integrity. As GenAI use becomes more integrated into teaching and learning (Prothero, 2023b), the issues of integrity will demand greater attention. Presently, many institutions are scrambling to get a better understanding of GenAI's impact on academic integrity. This chapter explores the nexus between artificial intelligence use and academic integrity.
