Introduction

Cromer is a small Victorian town with a traditional seafront comprising a beach, promenade

and pier. The town sits on top of soft cliffs which are defended to prevent erosion. Defence

from erosion is provided by a combination of groynes to retain the beach, which lies in front

of a seawall. The entire Cromer Coastal Strategy frontage is one mile in length.

Immediately to the east and west of Cromer the high soft cliffs continue. These cliffs

adjacent the Cromer frontage are undefended (though some relic defences remain to the east)

and are managed under a "No Active Intervention" policy.
