Chapter 6: Innovation in science teacher education in South Korea

This chapter describes the two main types of science teacher education in South Korea; one is teacher training programs for preservice teachers, and the other is professional development programs (PDPs) for beginning and in-service teachers. With this information, the strengths and weaknesses of science teacher education in Korea will be explored and its challenges and issues will be discussed. Also presented in this chapter are a number of suggestions for improving the quality of science teacher education, induction programs for beginning teachers, and the PDPs for in-service teachers.
