When Paige Evans and Donna W. Stokes began to create the physics portion of teachHOUSTON and later when teachHOUSTON became funded by its first National Science Foundation (NSF) NOYCE grant, they had no inkling that a series of future grants would support the ongoing development of the program. Also, the research line developed with Cheryl Craig was not fathomed. Even when this book was proposed and approved as the first of a three-volume set, there was no grand, lock step plan in sight. Instead, the authors envisioned ongoing, unfolding productivity. As we look back, the three of us marvel at teachHOUSTON's progress, which has not been arrow straight to be certain, but mostly forward moving in the best sense of the term.
