First page of Voices from Social Education
Challenging Neoliberalism Through a Social Education EdD

This chapter inquires into the individual and collective experiences of the authors’ experiences in an educational doctoral program (EdD) founded on social education. The chapter provides an overview of the history and context of the Social Education EdD, and each graduate presents storied accounts (Connelly & Clandinin, 1990) reflecting unique experiences and perspectives related to her program experiences. It concludes by examining salient themes among the stories relevant to the authors’ experiences and understandings of the intersections among teaching, research, and action related to justice and equity within the context of colleges of education in an era of neoliberal influence. These understandings hold implications for the development of approaches intended to better promote and support considerations of diversity and equity in the current context of doctoral programs in education.
