Within the context of a doctoral teaching apprenticeship, we designed, implemented, and reflected on a graduate course titled (Re)centering Well-being: Holding Space for Creatives and Educators. Our course description states: “Creatives and educators are invited to participate in “self-recovery” (bell hooks) explorations of the complexities of self, societal-self, and systemic-self using theoretically-framed practices (e.g., soulfulness (Harrell)), racial healing, storytelling, and art therapy). All areas of study are welcome!” Our course grappled with three questions: What role does well-being play in our lives as creatives and educators? What impact do soulfulness, art therapy, and racial healing have on us as creatives and educators? How do I sustain a practice of well-being now and beyond this course?
