PhET interactive simulations provide free meaningful opportunities for teachers to engage students in STEM practices in online learning environments. From planning investigations to collecting data to arguing from evidence, the simulations address a wide range of NGSS standards through guided-inquiry activities. This chapter describes the modification of an in-class inquiry lab using PhET’s Energy Skate Park: Basics simulation for remote learning with high school students. We describe research-based strategies for using PhET simulations that provide rich opportunities for student discourse and facilitated feedback (synchronous and asynchronous) where students work independently to use inquiry practices and meet NGSS standards.
