Since their development, school-based health centers (SBHCs) have expanded in number and in their efficacy (School-Based Health Alliance, 2015). However, there seems to be little integration between the SBHC movement and initiatives focused on creating trauma-informed schools. Our writing team has had over a decade of experience with incorporating health, well-ness, and trauma-informed practices into school settings. In this chapter, we discuss successes and challenges with helping schools have a more comprehensive approach to trauma-informed care through our “whole health” approach which incorporates SBHCs into the framework.
