This chapter focuses on a ground-breaking tutoring program for African refugee children and their parents in hopes of improved students learning outcomes. The program is a collaboration between a Midwestern university and a local community civic organization. This qualitative study explores what refugee parents need regarding their children’s schooling in the locality and provides valuable insights into the tutoring program, the university English as a Second Language teacher preparation program, and the local schoolteacher professional development program. The study demonstrates the importance of an expanded family-school-community-university collaborations through a holistic approach.
