First page of The Curriculum I Am/We Are

In the study of curriculum, there are endless avenues that can be travelled. One avenue can be the ‘isms.” Looking at the broad titles of essentialism, perennialism, progressivism, and social reconstructionism, just to name a few (Gutek, 2004), curriculum can be labeled, sorted, and categorized for convenience. We can take another road in the defining of curriculum with the taught, the implemented, the assessed, and the hidden. For infinite detail we can go to the blue bible, Understanding Curriculum, to immerse ourselves in the various texts of curriculum. All of these points, these labels, these definitions, strive to make explicit the idea of what curriculum is and what it isn’t.
