What does assessing leader performance accomplish? How do we do it? What do we use for the assessment? To suggest the practice of evaluating leader performance or behavior is new would be laughable at best. In fact, a discussion of leader performance assessment might garner some eyerolls from readers, given how much attention the performance of leaders receives in society. The purpose of this chapter is not to introduce a “fresh” or perfect version of this exercise, but rather to emphasize and illustrate the value of the exercise itself and suggest helpful parameters where assessing leader performance can itself be useful for leader development.
