The Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated existing challenges for single parents in the American workforce, revealing vulnerabilities and prompting urgent discussions about solutions. This chapter explores the definition and characteristics of the single parent population, the unique workforce challenges they face post-Covid, potential solutions, the role of technology, best practices for service delivery, recommendations for service providers, policy implications, and future considerations surrounding this demographic. Service delivery best practice begs the need for holistic support, flexible and accessible community-based resources, and client centered approaches. For service providers, it begs the need for sound training, strategic partnerships, continuous improvement, advocacy and policy engagement. Policy implications for purposes of advancing the needs of single parents include childcare care, paid family leave, workplace flexibility and reducing risks pertinent to the digital divide.
