This chapter corresponds to Annex F of EN 1994-1-1, which has the following clauses.
Annex F gives design rules for the detailing and resistance of shear studs that are close to an edge of a concrete slab, as shown in Figures 8.16, F.1 and F.2, and here in Figures 16.2 and 16.3. Details of this type can occur in composite bridges, and EN 1994-2:2005 included a set of these rules as Annex C. In buildings, the side of a deep haunch is also a potential region of risk. The rules for haunches, clause 8.6.10.4, pre-date the research that led to Annex F. It is a matter of judgement whether a design in accordance with those rules creates ‘splitting forces in the direction of the haunch width’ such that Annex F is applicable. This is discussed later, in the section ‘Applicability of Annex F’.
