In this chapter, we summarize our learning from earlier chapters and propose next steps for educators, experts, pundits, policymakers, parents, and carers to consider as they reckon with the implementation of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) within their schools and communities. We share examples of frameworks from one participating school as a prototype for readers to review, modify, and use with their own stakeholders in their unique school contexts.

Within the next two years, it will be imperative for communities to have discussions and make decisions about the role of GenAI in schooling. In early 2025, China announced that it would incorporate the teaching of artificial intelligence (AI) and GenAI into its primary and secondary school curriculum as a way to grow the next generation of AI developers and tech leaders. Meanwhile, in most of the Western world, schools and school leaders continued to put the handbrakes on GenAI innovation while they debate the pros and cons (Burleigh, 2025, March 10).
