The funding, or lack thereof, in higher education is a vexing problem. Nationally, higher education is seeing a dip in enrollment, which has a direct impact on the revenue generated by our universities. Subsequently, many HE/SA professionals are seeing a shrinking of their department budgets and professional development funds. Despite these shrinking budgets, the expectations of our work and what we produce often remain unchanged. As a profession, we are tasked with “doing more with less.” This has been a catalyst for student affairs to explore external funding, grants, and fundraising to supplement their budgets to achieve the funding needed to do their work. From your perspective, what insights and words of wisdom can you share?
