This study aims to investigate the relationships between festival attributes (FA) and the formation of festival identity. In addition, it explores the mediating role of emotional solidarity (ES) in the relationship between these antecedents and festival identity.
The study used a survey method. Data collected from respondents (n = 255) were analysed using Smart PLS. The structural relationships were evaluated with partial least squares-structural equation modelling.
The study reveals that constructive authenticity and place experience positively influence festival identity, whereas ritual experience and objective authenticity do not have a significant effect. Furthermore, the findings indicate that ES mediates the relationship between FAs and festival identity.
This study explores the unexplored area of the mediating role of ES in assessing the festival identity within the context of temple festivals. The conceptual framework seeks to explain the antecedents of festival identity by integrating contextually meaningful variables.
