Purpose

To develop a valid and reliable scale for measuring employee learning engagement (ELE) in corporate learning and development (L&D) programs.

Design/methodology/approach

The study developed a 4-item scale on ELE, based on the literature of engagement and L&D. The scale’s reliability and validity were established through three separate studies conducted on a total of 150 employees across various sectors in India.

Findings

The items of the scale exhibited strong reliability and validity, capturing the key aspects of employee engagement during learning programs.

Practical implications

This scale offers both practical and theoretical implications for L&D practitioners and scholars that are discussed in detail in the paper.

Originality/value

This study is a pioneer in empirically developing and validating a measure of ELE, advancing research on engagement while supporting practitioners in optimizing corporate training strategies.
