Purpose

This pilot research aims to explore the factors and practical considerations involved in implementing XR distributed platforms to facilitate employees’ creative competencies.

Design/methodology/approach

This pilot research employs a quasi-experimental approach, dividing participants into two groups: (1) an experimental group and (2) a control group. The experimental group engaged in a pilot learning strategy utilizing a XR distributed platform, while the control group experienced a traditional training format consisting of lectures and workshops within their organizations.

Findings

The results indicate that employees’ creative learning outcomes in XR environments surpass those achieved through traditional in-house training, particularly in the domain of creative idea development.

Research limitations/implications

The implementation of an XR distributed platform in creative organizational learning and communication yields positive outcomes. This research pioneers the application of situated learning principles in organizational contexts, where learners acquire skills in structured environments applicable to real-world practices (Jaya et al. 2025).

Practical implications

It is evident that future research on organizational learning and communication will evolve to a new level, driven by the emergence of advanced XR.

Originality/value
