Teesside Polytechnic Library's acquisitions information system Available to Purchase

The paper describes a system which automatically informs Polytechnic Library users of all new acquisitions within their subject interests. Each user supplies a personal profile of his interests which is matched against records of new acquisitions at monthly intervals. The users then receive personal printouts of matched records. Selection is on the basis of Dewey classification numbers and an additional facility permits retrieval on Dewey Standard Subdivisions within Specified Main Classes. The paper includes a discussion of the problems and costs of development and operation.
