Purpose

The organizations are developing green talents for various roles to meet sustainability targets driven by government regulations and top corporate leaders. The adoption of green talent management (GTM) within the Indian Information Technology firms is limited. This study aims to demonstrate the impact of GTM on talent related employee outcomes (TREO) and the mediating impact of green employee skills (GES) on the relationship between GTM and TREO.

Design/methodology/approach

A total of 424 responses obtained from managers/employees working in Indian IT firms were analyzed. The study used structural equation modeling for data analysis.

Findings

The findings indicate a positive effect of green soft talent management (STM) and green hard talent management (HTM) on TREO. The results further revealed that GES positively mediate the relationship between GTM and TREO.

Research limitations/implications

Organizations should embrace GTM practices for improving TREO and also fulfilling their commitment towards sustainability goals. Further, GES are a key factor in strengthening the positive relationship between GTM and TREO.

Originality/value

The present study offers novel insights into how GTM can be leveraged within the organizations to improve TREO. This research further advances the conceptual understanding of GTM as a higher-order construct comprising Green STM (developmental dimension) and Green HTM (system-oriented dimension). Further, the study highlights the mediating impact of GES on improving TREO.
