The human specie, along with other species, is born with the ability to learn. Learning is indispensable for survival. The infant from birth has a natural curiosity about its environment and the instinctive capacity to orientate itself towards satisfying this need. Adult protection is necessary during infancy but balance in this is vital to growth—over protection robs the infant of chances to engage in meaningful learning experiences and under protection to possible injury or worse.
