Significance
Singapore has close relations with both the United States and China. It is increasingly uncomfortable with rising tension between the two superpowers and the potential emergence of rival trade blocs.
Impacts
Singapore will urge ASEAN to do more on regional security while also backing ‘minilateral’ security initiatives such as the Quad and AUKUS.
Promoting greater trade liberalisation at the WTO will be high on the city-state’s agenda.
The city-state will continue to buy US arms and refuse to consider purchasing weapons from China.
