Significance
In the past 12 months, Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have become dialogue partners of the SCO, while Iran has become a full member.
Impacts
Middle Eastern countries, with exception of Iran, will maintain strong security ties with Washington.
Conflicting interests between members will reduce the political influence of the SCO and its usefulness to dialogue partners.
The renminbi will not become a major currency for settling trade between SCO members and the dialogue partners in the foreseeable future.
