It is difficult not to believe that the years around 1961 will come to be regarded as of special importance in the history of the Library Association; the period when a new syllabus and examination structure was finally brought to birth and the parent body given a new constitution. For the first time for forty years, perhaps, the Association has the necessary apparatus to enable it to carry out fully the terms of its charter; perhaps, also, this is its last chance to justify its unique position in the library world.
