Purpose – Discusses how human resource practices need to be adjusted to meet the needs of the latest generation of workers who have grown up in a digital world. Design/methodology/approach – Discusses the characteristics and skills of young workers who are graduating from college now and quotes research which indicates that employers are not meeting their needs and working styles. Discusses how organizations can attract and retain this group of workers and how they can motivate them. Quotes from a number of UK firms on the particular challenges of managing this group of workers. Findings –Suggests that firms need to offer work-life balance and flexibility to retain young workers, to be aware of the emphasis young people place on corporate social responsibility and to offer a more structured and faster career track.
