Smell of success

www.successfactors.co.uk/

SuccessFactors is an established global leader in human capital management solutions that help organizations align, develop, motivate and maintain their workforces. “With more than 2,360+ customers and 4+ million users worldwide using our web-based solution, we are helping companies of all sizes in all industries transform their businesses by focusing on their people.”

Wow. Quite a claim.

This is a nicely designed site, easy to drill down to some interesting material. There are different sections for businesses of all different sizes. Most have introductory video links (some of these are a bit flaky) and lots of useful pointers to the company’s software solutions.

There are some good “white papers” on the site which can be downloaded and look interesting. You have to register but this appears to be both free and confidential. Not sure if we believe all the hype but they are definitely worth a look.

Information on and offline

www.apinfo.co.uk/

AP Information Services provide new business contact information. Formed over 30 years ago they supply targeted contact information in key markets (Marketing,Personnel, HR, Training, Corporate Finance and Pension Funds). Through the publication of a wide range of directories and the supply of business mailing lists, they offer targeted mailing opportunities.

They publish The Personnel Manager’s Yearbook and The Training Manager’s Yearbook as well as a host of others. The site is easy to use and the links are fast. Best is a new online supplier directory for HR, training and marketing professionals – www.findasupplier.infowhich they claim (probably accurately) to be the largest free online source of HR, training and marketing suppliers currently available in the UK. It provides up-to-date information for over 4,000 suppliers of training products and services, more than 8,000 suppliers of HR services and 5,000 marketing agencies and consultants.

Useful in America

http://hr.blr.com

This site is a practical and comprehensive source of HR information. Launched in 1999 as HRNEXT.com (and it still keeps the web address if you want to access from there) it was re-launched in January 2004 as HR.BLR.com. Throughout, however, the site has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Business& Legal Reports Inc., a leading publisher of plain-English compliance information. We reviewed the original site way back when and it was not bad then.

HR.BLR.com provides advice and answers you need to complete your human resources tasks faster and easier. Features offered include an HR library, a daily news section, salary data and an HR community section where you can share situations, experiences, and questions with other HR professionals across North America. This last bit is important – this is a wholly USA site, and therefore only really relevant to the USA and perhaps Canada.

Good stuff

HR.com

This is a free web site that is in business to “help build great companies by connecting them to the knowledge and resources they need to effectively manage the people side of business”.

It is the largest social network and online community of HR executives, with thousands of worldwide members who have easy access to shared knowledge on best practices, trends and industry news in order to “help them develop their most important asset – their people”.

It is a nice clean site with plenty of good links, news and blogs. Hard to believe that we haven’t reviewed it before but better late than never.

HRinvasion.com

“We are currently not taking on anymore paid work due to being under contract with a charity. Do not worry we are still here for advise and networking!

“Welcome to HRinvasion, your HR Business Partner with a difference. While working in different sectors our consultants gain practical HR exposeure, dealing with policies and procedures – experience that can be past on to you, saving your business time and money.”

Well, what a start. We worry slightly that such a prestigious organization should have mistakes (anymore, advise, exposeure) on the home page and we are more than a little suspicious of the heraldic crest likewise.

HRinvasion claim to be “the worlds leading HR Business Partner Consultants specialising in Employee Motivation, Employee Incentive and Employee Retention techniques”. See if you believe them.

Although the style is a little dull, there are some good things here but please, get yourself a copywriter or a proof-reader at least.

And finally

In these troubled times, two quotes on success:

“Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it”(Henry David Thoreau).

“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm” (Winston Churchill).

Thanks to http://humanresources.about.com for these.
