Purpose
The paper aims to describe a successful managers' training program at UK food manufacturer Ginsters, and the performance improvements that have resulted.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper draws on information provided by the company's training and communication manager.
Findings
The paper shows that the training to 40 managers has helped the company to halve staff turnover, cut absence rates, increase staff stability, reduce production‐line down time and improve service levels to the company's supermarket customers.
Practical implications
The paper provides plenty of evidence to support the idea that training can provide a positive return on investment.
Originality/value
The paper gives much interesting detail on how the training was devised and delivered.
