Supervisory Training: A Blueprint for Research and Testing in Programme Development

The foundation of an effective supervisory training programme is through research and testing. A process used by Xerox Learning Systems to develop a supervisory skills programme addressed critical skills (as seen by supervisors, trainers and managers) and had as its main objective the identification and ranking of key supervisory skills to establish effective behaviour. The programme was then tested on 300 supervisors in a variety of industries and the resulting data allowed an understanding of the learning process for supervisory skills.
