There are few managers who cannot at some time have had occasion to appoint a new member of staff. And there must be few managers who, if they are honest, cannot also on occasion have regretted the choice they made. In part the reason is a simple one — human nature is complex; management decisions have to be made quickly in limited time; few managers have received adequate, if any, training for most aspects of their job, least of all for selection and appointment; and few of the training media producers have devoted enough time to developing suitable aids for them.
