RECENTLY, AS PART OF A COURSE, A COMPANY HAD TO provide a relevant in‐company project for their training officer. After making a number of conventional and rather feeble suggestions it was eventually agreed that he would investigate the problem of low earners (these are operatives who fail to earn the minimum bonus and whose wage therefore has to be made up by the company). There were a significant number of these each week.
