This study aims to examine the decarbonization process in Brazil’s freight supply chain, emphasizing the integration of digital transformation (DT) and sustainability practices.
A multi-method approach was used, incorporating insights from 50 experts across 12 meetings. An adaptation of a conceptual mapping tool, grounded in Design Science Research, was used to analyze thematic clusters, including circular supply chains, technological innovation, governance and sustainable logistics operations.
The results highlight the potential of DT technologies to enhance sustainability in freight logistics. Challenges, including infrastructure deficits, regulatory uncertainty and socioeconomic disparities, are identified as significant barriers. The results provide insights for integrating decarbonization strategies within supply chain networks in Brazil, emphasizing the interrelation between technological innovation and governance.
This study bridges the gap between supply chain decarbonization practices and DT-enabled capabilities. It offers a novel perspective on addressing sustainability challenges through interconnected approaches.
