Challenges in regulating the local and global needs of quality management systems

Dr. Aviva Bashan is a faculty member at Afeka Tel Aviv Academic College of Engineering. Her areas of research include quality management in global organizations and operational/strategic management of multinational companies. She has published a number of books on subjects including operation and production management, quality management and statistical process control. She has been a member of the ASQC since 2001, as well as the Israel Society of Quality. This article is based on her doctoral research conducted in the Department of Statistics, University of Haifa, Israel in 2007–2015. She later (2017–2020) conducted additional field studies to expand the research and substantiate the findings. These studies included mapping the global profiles of multinational companies and analyzing the results in light of the challenges faced by their functional systems, including the global quality system discussed in this article. Her findings highlight the need to adopt a systemic approach, analyze the activities and developmental stages of global quality functions and create appropriate interdisciplinary terminology.

Dr. Sigal Kordova is an industrial engineering and management engineer with BSc, MSc. and Ph.D. degrees from the. She was the head of the project management track, Management of Technology Faculty at HIT, Holon Institute of Technology (2015–2018). During 2017 she was a post-doctoral researcher at the department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research, George Mason University, USA. Currently she is a faculty member at the department of Industrial Engineering and Management at Ariel University. Her research areas are systems thinking in systems engineering, system of systems and project management.
