Purpose

This study focuses on the relationship between Total Quality Management (TQM) and green performance within Tunisia’s manufacturing sector as well as on the mediating role of green innovation inside this relation.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from a survey administrated for 75 Tunisian manufacturing companies. Conceptual model and hypotheses are tested using the structural modeling equation with Smart PLS 4 software.

Findings

Results indicate that TQM positively affects both green innovation and green performance. Results also indicate that green innovation positively affects green performance. Results deduce that green innovation partially mediates the relationship between TQM and green performance.

Research limitations/implications

This study improves the understanding of the relation between TQM, green innovation and green performance. This study contributes to the advancement of green management strategies and the promotion of environmental sustainability amidst industrial expansion.

Originality/value

This study stands out as one of the few that explore and test the connection between TQM and green performance through the lens of green innovation.
