This volume is designed to assist conservation and development professionals involved in multistakeholder management of natural resources.

It provides guidelines for a co-management process and describes in detail relevant concepts, methods, tools and ideas. The emphasis is on practical approaches and advice, following the direct experience gained in co-management initiatives assisted by IUCN and GTZ. The text is accompanied by definition boxes, example boxes, annexes illustrating participatory methods of particular relevance for the co-management process. Lessons learned, tips for action and a list of references and suggested readings are also included.

This volume has been written by Grazia Borrini-Feyerabend, M. Taghi Farvar,Jean Claude Nguinguri, and Vincent Awa Ndangang. It was produced for the GTZ and the IUCN Regional Office for Central Africa. The authors say that comments and suggestions for improvement will be very much appreciated, and acknowledged in future documents dealing with guidelines and lessons learnt.
