New sustainability projects in the North Sea region
A set of five new sustainability projects has been approved in the December round of the EU Programme Interreg IIIB North Sea. The projects, to run from 2004 to 2007 and with a total budget of 4.2 million, will explore innovative ways to promote a sustainability dimension in areas where so far traditional environmental protection approaches have been used. They involve a wide range of cities in Belgium, Britain, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. The approved projects are:
SmartLIFE: sustainable construction and sustainable building.
URBAL: sustainability approaches connecting rural and urban areas.
VISP: vitalizing urban spaces.
Waterfront: sustainable development in coastal cities and in cities surrounded by rivers.
FLOWS: methods in sustainable spatial planning to present floods.
