A method and apparatus for process control of robots within a flexible assembly system is described. In particular this relates to the handling of error or defect information generated during the assembly of workpieces in such a system.
Once the characteristics of a pallet, or tray, used to supply workpieces to a workcell are described and stored in memory, they may be used uniquely to identify defective workpieces during the assembly process. The defect information may then be stored in a cell controller which controls one or more workcells. The information can be recalled later, to determine what, if any,further processing should be conducted on the defective workpieces.
