Bend me, flex me, anyway you want me

Industrial robots can now enjoy even more freedom and flexibility of movement thanks to Lapp Cables extended OLFLEX-ROBOT 900 series of robot arm cable (Plate 4). The cables, for handling the transmission of control and monitoring signals as well as power supply, can accommodate three types of motion –flexing/bending; twisting/torsion; and push-pull. The ability of the cable to withstand the unique stresses created by these movements makes it ideal for robot-arms or any unguided cable movement installation.

Lapp OLFLEX-ROBOT 900's fine or superfine long lay length strands of copper wire reduce conductor stress whilst the high quality, smooth core insulation extends the cable's working life; the integral slip wrapping reduces friction;and the polyurethane sheathing is abrasion and notch resistant and designed to prevent adhesion. The outer sheath has enhanced oil resistance, is microbe and hydrolysis resistant and flame retardant. It is of special interest to manufacturers of free-arm robotics, five-axis machines, pick and place equipment, welding robots and rotating and tilting tables.
OLFLEX-ROBOT 900 cables are proving themselves in a recent installation of highly flexible free-arm robots in the UK body and paint plant of a leading manufacturer of passenger and commercial vehicles. The advanced robots, with their umbilical cable routed internally are among the first with a significantly enhanced ability to manoeuvre within the confines of automated stations.
Each robot has far greater freedom of movement and flexibility enabling greater manufacturing accuracy and precision. The new robotic cells have also increased operational 'uptime', as many have the ability to change their tooling automatically, and costly operational 'downtime' as a result of repairs and maintenance is minimised, as modular cable harnesses provide a relatively simple'plug and play' capability.
Lapp Cable offers two standard versions of robot cable OLFLEX-ROBOT 900 P(unscreened) and OLFLEX-ROBOT 900 DP (screened) – supplied in a wide choice of core variants and outside diameters.
