Automation specialist Thurnall plc has been asked to provide five robotic systems to Warburton's new bakery in Scotland. Used for handling and storing bread tin straps, this recent order follows on Thurnall's success in providing three Crocus gantry robots to the company's Nottingham bakery.
Three of the new robotic systems will be involved in bread tin strap handling while the remaining two will be used for handling and storing tin strap lids. Measuring 3.5m high x 4.5m wide x 14.2m long each tin strap robot has the capacity to hold up to 5,000 double tin straps. Capable of simultaneous or independent operation the robots are able to discriminate between five different tin types.
The robotic systems are currently undergoing commissioning trials at Warburton's new plant just outside Glasgow. Due to be fully operational by May 1998, the systems will work 24 hours per day and will provide Warburton's with full, synchronised exchange of tin types during product changeover without interrupting production.
The robotic systems installed at Warburton's, Nottingham have provided reliable operation since their acceptance trials.
