Minirobot pets take sensor voice command

Keywords: Robots, Sensors, Voice recognition

The major Japanese toymaking firm, Tomy Ltd, has released its MICROPET series, animal robots with voice recognition capability, robots that stand some 4 cm tall and have nicknames like Sky, among others. Their responses to vocal instructions depend on the length of the command. For instance, "Sky, go"actually makes the robot move forward, while "Sky, modotte oide... Sky, come back," makes the device rotate and return.

The power automatically shuts off if there is a pause in voice commands. Tomy will eventually appear in 12 models, including dogs, cats, and bears. The price is 1,280 yen, calculated on the basis of ¥120 per dollar.
