Purpose

The aim of this study is to analyze the conceptual structure of the application of artificial intelligence (AI) for autistic students during the period 1990–2023. In this way, information can be obtained on the different trends in research from the point of view of the authors (keyword authors) and from the classification made by the databases (Keyword Plus).

Design/methodology/approach

In this research, the different databases that comprise the Web of Science core collection were used, applying the PRISMA methodology to obtain a sample of 83 documents. With these documents, the VOSviewer software was used to represent the scientific mapping of keywords in the field of AI in autistic students.

Findings

The results showed that both Keyword Authors and Keyword Plus have defined lines of research within the field of work, such as inclusive education or the use of AI to analyze attention, emotion work and speech in autistic students.

Originality/value

With the implementation of new emerging technologies, especially AI, the importance of this work lies in presenting the reader with the usefulness of AI for working with autistic students. More specifically, it presents the applications of this tool for autistic students.
