In terms of reservoir safety, discontinuance has never been, and will never be, an easy option. This paper looks at the issues arising from the proposed discontinuance of a relatively small dam in Havant, Hampshire, UK. This paper will look at the problems, which include the social, health and safety, flood risk and environmental issues faced by the engineer. Warren dam has been subject to a long history of vandalism and has never been used to its full potential, making discontinuance an attractive option to the undertaker.
